Access to modern energy.

CREATING BETTER INFRASTRUCTURE

Energy as a Building Block for Prosperity

Cheap energy has been a crucial building block for today's global prosperity. Primarily enjoyed in the Global North, the world was also on track to reduce extreme poverty in the Global South. However, the unprecedented economic growth driven by fossil fuels has come at a cost, and the world is now struggling to fight climate change.

A just and equitable energy transition is essential for the Global South to build their economies and eliminate extreme poverty.

Access to energy is a fundamental prerequisite.

WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW

Africa contributes less than 2% to global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

At the same time, due to a lack of investment in energy production and distribution systems,  the continent faces some of the highest energy costs in the world.

Currently, 900 million people lack access to clean cooking, and 600 million people do not have access to electricity.

The cost of inaction per year

800 MT

Kg CO₂ pollution.

23 M

Unfulfilled jobs by women.

$500B

Yearly cost of health.

NEXT STEPS

PAL Energies' Response towards the Future

Over the next 15-20 years, Africa requires a pragmatic approach to energy policy and investments. The continent needs energy systems that can produce and distribute affordable energy today, while remaining useful for the production and distribution of clean, emission-free energy in the future.
